Dying in Brown’s Britain Set to Cost £20,000 More
In a despicable, but not altogether unpredictable announcement/policy/idea/consultation, Brown’s badgers have have come up with the brilliant idea of charging a £20,000 death tax to pay for an elderly care scheme.
The problem here is that those on modest incomes will be left nothing to pass onto their friends and families. The problem as I see is is yet more government intervention into our lives. Surely it would be much better to have a voluntary scheme that people can pay into earlier on to pay for old age care rather than this policy of taxing by stealth.
At PMQs today, David Cameron quizzed the Prime Minister on it and he was simply unable to give a straight answer about it. The reason being he has a track record of not raising taxes just before an election and then sneakily raising them straight after an election whilst no one is watching. Labour will simply not be able to get away with this one. As if the inheritance tax hit enopugh, this new ‘super tax’ will hit the middle earners most. The poorest are always protected by handouts and the richest can afford whatever taxes come thier way, but the middle class have a problem and they are the ones who feel the brunt of every new Labour tax policy.
