You are invited to attend a lecture on Tuesday 20 October at 6.00pm at the University of Glasgow in the Sir Charles Wilson Building Lecture Theatre. The lecture is jointly hosted by the Glasgow Centre for International Development (GCID) and Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), and will be followed by a drinks reception in the foyer.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a British charity that operates in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Lebanon. They deliver health and medical care to vulnerable Palestinians and strive to establish a permanent medical infrastructure in Palestinian communities by training health care practitioners, teaching medical vocational skills and addressing the requirements of particularly vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities.

This lecture event will tell the largely untold story of health and health care in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, before, during and after the recent invasion of Gaza. Pauline McNeil MSP, Convenor of the Cross-Party Group on Palestine will chair the event, and the two speakers, Dr Rana Khatib from Birzeit University and Professor Graham Watt from the University of Glasgow will be joined by Dr Rajaie Batniji from the University of Oxford, who authored a paper on health and security in Palestine published recently in the Lancet.

Of course, how dare I be so cynical! This is of course a totally impartial and informative lecture. Presumably, for fairness sake it will highlight the fact that Hamas have been keeping their own people in poverty for decades and the fact that Israelis are often the victims of rocket attacks too.

*I have crossed this out as it caused offence to some people. I did not intend to cause any offence, I just get a bit worked up about the whole Palestine thing.
