Astonishing Hyprocisy

In an astonishing show of hypocrisy, Alastair Campbell has today claimed that David Cameron is getting an easy ride with the media. Clearly it was all much tougher in the Blair years! Blair’s positive image didn’t happen by default, there was always a massive PR operation behind everything he said. Indeed, in raw PR terms, Alistair Campbell was so good he even managed to present Blair as innocent despite a man committing suicide because of the cover-ups and exaggerations in Number 10.

The simple fact of the matter is that the media will report the story. Brown and Labour just isn’t a story any more. Everyone knows they’re a disaster, everyone knows they will probably lose the next election so they have turned their attentions towards Cameron and the Conservatives where there is a story. People want to know what the Conservatives will do and as such the media coverage of Cameron is part of that process.

It’s not about giving him an easy ride. Clearly Campbell is a bit upset that the whole Nu Labour project has spectacularly back fired as it was always going to.
