Ken Clarke Returns to Shadow Cabinet

Ken Clarke is to return to the Shadow Cabinet as the Shadow Business Secretary. I understand Alan Duncan will be offered another senior position, perhaps Shadow Home Secretary.

The full reshuffle will be announced tomorrow and there will be full coverage of it here.

The move has smacks of Cameron & his team getting scared of Lord Mandelson. Bringing Clarke back will not particularly help as he is a party divider, not a unifier. The move will not impress many of the grassroots. I hope the rest of the changes are slightly more promising than Clarke’s return.

Tory insiders say that he will not try to change the Party’s policy on Europe, and he and Cameron have, in effect agreed to disagee on the matter. We’ll wait and see how true that really is.
