Could there possibly be a general election in the summer next year?

Today we learn that Gordon Brown is to give David Cameron access to the Civil Service in the New Year. This is a signal that an election may be on the way. It’s convention that the service speaks to the Opposition in the months preceding an election so that there can be a swift hand over of power should the opposition win the election.

having said that, we all know what Gordon is about so don’t read fully into it. He may be playing a game, but then again he may well be considering an election next year, it just depends whether he can pluck up the courage this time round.
