UPDATE, 2:13am – SNP:1, Lab:2, Tory:3, lib:4 – These are the final positions with the result still to be confirmed.

UPDATE, 2:06am – RESULT TO BE ANNOUNCED VERY SHORTLY. Tories will finish 3rd, ahead of the Liberals

UPDATE, 2:00am – Let’s not underestimate anything here: Even if Labour end up winning by a couple hundred after the recount, it’s still an incredibally bad night for them. There is simply no way of spinning this one.

UPDATE, 1:33am – vote is going to a recount after the first count shows an SNP win by just 400 votes. Labour want to make sure it’s accurate so we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the result. I’m really undecided wether to stay up now. I need to go to bed, but can’t really afford to miss this historic result.

UPDATE: this seems to be going right down to the wire, forget what I said. I am here and TBN is LIVE. SNP are saying they will get about 1,500 majority – this is more than the 22% swing needed to win in the first place!

Iain Dale says CONSERVATIVES may well beat Liberals into 3rd Place.

UPDATE, 1:15am – LABOUR ARE CONCEDING DEFEAT, the Herald is reporting

Result yet to be announced, but turnout has been confirmed at 42.25% which is not much less than the 48% in 2005.

The SNP are claiming they have done very well, however it is unclear as to how well. I still expect Labour to win, but we shall wait.

If you want to be following live coverage, the BBC is broadcasting it on the web.

As mentioned earlier today, TBN will not be covering the results live, but will have full stats and analysis available tomorrow.
